I love when a semester is coming to an end but I always have problems choosing the right professors for the following semester’s courses. Nothing is more frustrating than asking your friends about certain professors, only to find out that neither one of them know who you are talking about. Finally a girlfriend referred me to RateMyProfessors, which is a website dedicated to student reviews of professors. After locating my school and the professors I was interested in, I was able to choose an instructor based on the comments written by his/her past students. This does not only extend to American universities, but also Canadian and European institutions. It’s a great site which is easy to navigate and really helps in choosing the professors which suit your learning style. Look it up and don’t forget to rate your past professors!

What is the one thing I dislike about the 1st week of school? Answer: Spending hundreds of dollars on textbooks that I may/ may not use.
What is the one thing I look forward to at the end of the semester (excluding vacation)? Answer: Engaging in the textbook buy-back program and getting money for my used textbooks ( those I don’t wish to keep).
If you’re like me then you are going to love this! A few classmates suggested using the website Chegg where college students can rent or buy textbooks for WAYYY less than the prices at the school bookstores. Earlier this week I rented my Financial Accounting textbook for the entire semester (until May) for only $9.99. Subtract this from the cost of the exact text from the school bookstore for $115. See the HUGE difference? I was also able to rent my Economics textbook for $21 versus the price of $95 at the bookstore. In all I saved $237 using this website and I think it’s a great asset for us college students.
Furthermore, students receive FREE shipping on all books and returning the books is also very simple (you drop off the box with the printed return label at any UPS store and it is returned to the company at NO charge to you). Need another reason? For every book that you rent/ purchase, a tree is planted at a selected location (that’s what they say so we can only hope they follow through on that), in an effort to help the environment. Additionally, it is easy to track the location of the books you ordered on the website.
The majority of my classmates use it and having used it myself, I would highly recommened this website to any college student. Check out Chegg.com guys!! The savings are worth it!
Since last October, I have been patiently observing the news with the hope that the ban on text messaging while driving would be put into effect. After signing 2 school petitions following the death of 3 individuals in our county, many of us awaited a response not only from the mayor but from federal officials as well. Last October, President Obama acknowledged that something had to be done and we’re FINALLY getting there ! Federal employees are officially banned from texting while driving. GREAT! Now let’s get a nationwide ban on this! Or please just start with Florida!!
I have always loved coconut water (in fact just about any coconut product) and since I moved to the US I’ve ALWAYS stocked up on cans of the plain water and those with the huge coconut chunks (It’s available at almost any grocer now, including Walmart). What I was unaware of until today (since it’s written on the can before me) are the numerous health benefits of coconut water.
Coconut water is considered to be nature’s sports drink and is revered as a natural source of hydration, nutrition and wellness. It contains five electrolytes, more than that found in sports drinks, including more potassium than a banana. Electrolytes are necessary for heart and muscle function, fluid balance and acid/base balances. Furthermore, they enable the proper functioning of cells by carrying electrical impulses. Potassium is also required for regulation of blood pressure and heart function, promoting muscle recovery and preventing cramping. Coconut water is also composed of fewer calories than sports drinks and is a source of calcium, vitamin C and riboflavin.
Still not convinced? Coconut water is the only natural substance that can be safely injected into our blood stream (it is identical to human blood plasma). It has been used to save lives in 3rd world countries through this process of coconut IV (wow). Moreover, it is more nutritious than whole milk, containing less fat and no cholesterol, and is more healthy than orange juice. Who’d have thought?
Apart from the costs of college credits/tuition, college textbooks are the most expensive thing associated with earning a higher education. If you take courses which require textbooks for under $100, consider yourself blessed. Fortunately the ‘big people’ are starting to listen to our plights and are seeking ways to reduce such costs. The new website The Orange Grove offers the FREE download of college textbooks. Yes this is different but it is FREE and of course a few trees are being spared. Granted you won’t be able to highlight text as you read (for those who enjoy doing this) and your eyes may ache from staring at the computer screen for a prolonged period, however this venture saves students money. The website offers 145 books (for now) which are used in statewide community colleges and universites in Florida. At present, negotiations are being made to increase the number of text books available. Hopefully other states will take heed and offer this service as well.
